Uncertainty is certain

If there is any lesson that the pandemic hammered home, it's something that has always been true but seems more so than ever: uncertainty is certain.

If uncertainty is certain - how can we design for uncertainty? How can we prepare ourselves and others for uncertainty? How can we create predictability and consistency with the context of uncertainty?

And what does this have to do with diversity, equity, and inclusion?

Well, what if the idea that we need to know all the answers and execute to perfection creates oppressive cultures that harm us all, although not equally? What if pretending things are certain, forcing them to be certain, actually creates a lack of psychological safety and hampers the kind of inclusion that leads to collaboration and innovation? What if it is diversity that can lead to better solutions that allow us to navigate uncertainty with more effectiveness, empathy and grace?

If we can design for uncertainty, we can design for diversity, equity and inclusion. What would that look like for you?
